This batik leather tote is made by artisans in Shantiniketan using two distinct hand techniques applied to genuine leather. In crackle batik, wax is applied to the leather surface and deliberately fractured before dyeing — creating a fine network of dark lines that give the leather its characteristic depth and aged warmth. Over this, the skin batik technique layers hand-painted pigment colour directly onto the leather surface, building the design stroke by stroke. The craft covers both sides of the bag.
